From Amazon.com: "There is no such thing as a true tale. Truth has many faces and the truth is like to the old road to Avalon; it depends on your own will and your own thoughts, whither the road will take you." The Mists of Avalon is a story of another time and place. It's the legendary saga of King Arthur and his companions at Camelot, their battles, love, and devotion, told this time from the perspective of the women involved. Viviane is The Lady of the Lake, the magical priestess of the Isle of Avalon, a special mist-shrouded place which becomes more difficult to reach as people turn away from its nature- and Goddess-oriented religion. Viviane's quest is to find a king who will be loyal to Avalon as well as to Christianity. This king will be Arthur. Gwenhwyfar, Arthur's Queen, is an overly pious, fearful woman who successfully sways her husband into betraying his allegiance to Avalon. Set against her is Morgaine of the Fairies, Arthur's sister, love, and enemy--and the most powerfully believable person in the book--who manipulates the characters like threads in a tapestry to achieve her tragic and heroic goals. The Mists of Avalon becomes a legend seen through new eyes, with details, majestic language, and haunting foreshadowing that hold the reader through its more than 800 pages.

From Amazon.com: As a longtime fan of the show I was delighted to see this book come out, and am looking forward to the updated edition in April of this year. Loaded with little known facts, behind the scenes information and personal interviews with the actors and others connected with the show, this book is a must have for any Bewitched fan. Best of all Pilato doesn't just concentrate on the main cast, he is careful to include plenty of great information on others as well, including clients, mortal guest stars, and of course, semi regular characters. Even if you're not a huge fan of Bewitched (though I don't see how anyone could not be) you'll find this book a wonderful resource, and a welcome addition to your library!

From Amazon.com: Bodhran and kora? Talking drums and Uilleann pipes? Echoing ancient trade roots from a thousand years ago, Sound Magic reunites two seemingly disparate music traditions in a contemporary setting, reaching for a dance-oriented but spiritual hybrid that takes on a life of its own. Producer Simon Emmerson assembles some noteworthy artists including Ayub Ogada, Davy Spillane, Manu Katche, Caroline Lavelle, James McNally (of the Pogues), Iarla O Lionaird, and Masamba Diop to create evocative, clubby grooves that also incorporate samples and flavors from Armenia and the East. With its multilayered rich textures, Sound Magic grafts cultural respect and urban hipness.

From Amazon.com: McKennitt's
recordings always have the quality of a spiritual sojourn; her songs are those
of a seeker, whether she's setting Yeats, Scripture, or her own words to her
compositions. It's this that attracts people to her music, and
The Book of Secrets is no
exception, whether it's the lazy rhythms of "Marco Polo," the sober joy of
"The Mummers' Dance," the poignancy of "Skellig" or "Dante's Prayer," or the
drama of Alfred Noyes's "The Highwayman." "The Highwayman" is a particularly
strong effort, especially in comparison to her earlier setting of "The Lady of
Shalott"; McKennitt has become much more skilled at musical narrative. This is
music that can be enjoyed on many levels, from McKennitt's growing skill as a
composer to the deeper questions posed by her lyrics.

From Amazon.com: The California girl who wanted to be a Welsh witch has always been best when her mysticism and mooniness has been offset by harder-headed collaborators. Though this box set doesn't include the Fleetwood Mac stuff that made her name, it does pull together curious stuff she's done elsewhere: pre-Mac work with Lindsey Buckingham from the Buckingham-Nicks days, duets with the likes of Tom Petty and Don Henley, and a few soundtrack numbers. The first two discs have everything worth saving from her five solo albums (actually, one disc would have done that too, though "Edge of Seventeen" appears in a live version rather than the hit), plus some B-sides, and the third has rarities and obscurities, including an enlightening demo of "Rhiannon."

From Amazon.com:
The filmed version of
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,
adapted from the wildly popular
book by J.K. Rowling, stunningly brings to
life Harry Potter's world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The
greatest strength of the film comes from its faithfulness to the novel, and
this new cinematic world is filled with all the details of Rowling's
imagination, thanks to exuberant sets, elaborate costumes, clever makeup and
visual effects, and a crème de la crème cast, including Maggie Smith, Richard
Harris, Alan Rickman, and more. Especially fine is the interplay between Harry
(Daniel Radcliffe) and his schoolmates Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma
Watson), as well as his protector, the looming Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane). The
second-half adventure--involving the titular sorcerer's stone--doesn't
translate perfectly from page to screen, ultimately because of the film's
fidelity to the novel; this is a case of making a movie for the book's fans,
as opposed to a transcending film. Writer Steve Kloves and director Chris
Columbus keep the spooks in check, making this a true family film, and with
its resourceful hero wide-eyed and ready, one can't wait for Harry's return.
